A BMP file, or bitmap, is a raster image file mainly designed by Microsoft for use on Windows systems. BMP files are widely supported by many applications across both Microsoft and Apple systems and are often used for digital photos. As they are raster files, they are based on pixels rather than formulas, so they cannot be scaled endlessly. But they are very high-quality image files, storing a lot of data, and can be compressed without losing that data or any color detail. This means the file sizes can end up being quite large.
A PDF, or a Portable Document Format, is one of the most common types of digital files you will come across. It was created by Adobe and the advantage of this file is that it can be opened and viewed on nearly every application, including most web browsers. Editing a PDF is a little tricky, but there are a few programs around that will let you do that. PDF files often contain both images and text and are a good format to share documents with others as there is a high chance they will be able to view it, unlike DOC files. PDFs can also contain links and buttons and can be signed electronically, making them great for contracts.
BMP files are high-quality bitmap image files, often used with digital photography. It was developed originally by Microsoft, although the file type can be opened in other applications. But because of their large size, they can be quite slow to share and take up a lot of space on hard drives and in cloud storage. You can make it easier to share BMP images by converting them to PDF format, which can be opened in most applications without altering the appearance of the image. Convert a BMP to PDF in a file management software like WinZip.
