Unsupported Zip format
The current WinZip® version is WinZip 12.1. You can download the latest release from the WinZip download page.
WinZip® supports the Zip 2.0 standard file format, which is the specification used by the vast majority of applications on the market that process Zip files. Some older versions of WinZip, however, may not support recent changes and enhancements to the Zip file format. The current release of WinZip, WinZip 12.1, supports the changes to the Zip file format that have been previously documented.
WinZip 12.1 supports the following compression formats:
- Enhanced deflate - Compression Method 9
- bzip2 - Compression Method 12
- WavPack - Compression Method 97
- PPMd - Compression Method 98
- LZMA - Compression Method 14
- Jpeg - Compression Method 96
- AES encryption - Compression Method 99
You can determine the installed release of WinZip by clicking About WinZip on the Help menu in the WinZip Classic interface or by clicking the About button in the initial WinZip Wizard panel.
If you are using an older version of WinZip, we recommend that you obtain and install a copy of the current release.
If you cannot process the Zip file with the current release of WinZip, and if you are confident that the Zip file is a valid one, we would appreciate your filling out the following form to give us more information about the Zip file and its origin.
